ABOUT
ME
My name is Jacky, I used to work in a very busy cafe located in Kitsilano. There was a part of this job that fascinated me and motivated me throughout the day no matter how many times I did it. And that is pouring latte art.
How I started
In late 2019, I was introduced to latte art while browsing YouTube. At that time I just started making my own pour-overs using the coffee beans from Starbucks, a blade grinder, and a wide spout kettle to pour boiling water heavily onto the coffee bed. Looking back, I am now not a big fan of the coffees that I made back then. However, I had so much fun with the process, I didn’t stop there. I ended up searching for more coffee content on YouTube, hoping I could improve my coffee brewing skills. YouTube recommendations showed me beautiful latte art videos, luring me into the espresso side of coffee, and of course, I was hooked.
After some research, I ordered a Breville espresso machine, and while expensive, I couldn’t wait to set it and start pouring my first latter art. My first attempts didn’t go as smoothly as I thought they would. I didn’t know what I was doing nor what I supposed to do. The milk foam was sometimes chunky or watery, the espresso looked pale and dripped too fast, and there were other problems I didn’t recognize that left me feeling discouraged. I searched for help online, but the situation didn’t get much better, or at least my progress didn’t match my ambition. Later on I found out that although pouring latte art doesn’t appear difficult, there are many details that can be easily overlooked during the process. Minor mistakes and the time constraint while pouring a pattern have a huge impact on the end result.

Please reach out!
There was a time when I was desperately looking for help to pour better latte art. It felt like hitting the bottleneck and I could not find a direction to improve. Luckily I found a latte artist from Taiwan who does seriously good latte art and is willing to help me improve online. He pointed out some problems from the videos I sent him, and it changed the game for me. He was super helpful, and now I want to do the same.
If you are on a budget and having trouble finding ways to learn or improve your latte art skills, feel free to ask me anything, preferably with a video of you pouring latte art. I will do my best to help.
